Dine-at-Home trend on the rise
A noticeable (and inevitable) trend during the ‘lockdown years’ of 2020-2021 was that consumers wanted to experience restaurant-quality meals despite the hospitality industry being shuttered. In fact, in a recent study 65% of shoppers have said they intend to eat at home ‘considerably more’ than they did pre-pandemic.
Is this bad news for restaurants, or an opportunity to diversify?
Hospitality businesses across the UK are turning to frozen meal deliveries to bolster revenue streams amidst a growing preference for consumers to enjoy fine dining at home. Maximising your existing kitchen resources and culinary skills means that adding home-delivered meals is a sound investment.
In fact, some restaurant groups have used ‘dark kitchens’ within industrial units to produce the food for home-delivered meals. Industrial units are generally a lot cheaper to rent compared to retail spaces, and it offers room for expansion without eating into the existing restaurant kitchen.
Frozen food delivered to homes has a number of advantages including:
- Longer shelf-life
- Easy to deliver to homes
- Nutrients locked in
- Less food waste
What are the benefits of home-delivered meals?
Adding home-delivered meals to your hospitality business is a win-win. Here’s why:
- Increase revenue streams with little capital investment
- Make use of low-capacity time to produce meals for frozen storage
